Atari is Now Available for the Android Market

All doubt concerning whether or not the Android would ever be able to compete with Apples Iphone must certainly have been laid to rest now.  The disparity between the number of Apps available for the Android and the number of apps available for the Iphone OS has been reduced significantly to the point where are now separated by merely a fraction.  With support from legendary companies such as Capcom, Rock Star and games such as Need for Speed, Dead Space, and now the Company Atari making all the best Atari games downloadable from a single Android app, for just about ten bucks, Google’s android isn’t backing down. Not to mention many other big names have recently expressed their
interest in developing Apps exclusively for the Android,  it experienced
an over %100 growth rate in the amount of apps that were made available
for the Android within less than a year.

The Android is gaining
ground.  Most critics and developers maintain that the Iphone is still
superior at least when it comes down to the quality and selection of
games.

But now that the ancient, original and classic Atari has announced an app that would contain a reissue of the Atari arcade classics for the Android market, it’s starting to feel like the Android is taking off.

The Android Atari App will allow you to revisit that era of innocence in gaming, granting you access to all the classic games that started it all……Pong, Asteroids, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Star Raiders, all stuffed into this app which has already reached 3.5 million downloads on Itunes.

The collection consists of over 100 classic Atari games, Crystal Castles of course was one of Atari’s most popular games and no one can forget Pong.

If you’re not familiar with Atari you have the option of downloading the app and playing Missile Command for free, with 25 games costing $0.99 and 100 games at a reasonable $9.99, the No. 1- selling Atari’s Greatest hits expands its reach to new operating systems.

For those of you not familiar with the Atari, the Atari was the first commercial console ever released, yes, for those of you who don’t know, even before the first Nintendo, while the graphics aren’t great by today’s standards, Atari paved the way for the much more sophisticated games that people wait in line for at Midnight today, I’m referring to Halo 2.

The original Atari was founded in California and spawned hundreds of titles many of which became the inspiration and model which impelled future developers to become well….developers.  It’s first and perhaps most notable creation was Pong, a tennis-style arcade game that saw players controlling two paddles.  You basically had to hit the ball back and forth, if you missed it, you lost a point.

While they game wasn’t intricate, certainly not by today’s standards, it was competitive, it was addictive and it laid the foundation for the video game market.  The Greatest Hits Android app is designed to mimic the gameplay of the original Atari and has already proven to be very popular.   For $9.99 you can’t really go wrong with this.
