A research firm had predicted that by the end of 2016, the number of Internet users who access social networks on smartphones or other mobile devices will exceed 1.7 billion worldwide.

That is more than triple the number (550 million) that was projected for 2011. The major social networking players such as Facebook, Google+, and Twitter will have to buck up and take the challenge to strengthen themselves and capture a larger share of the market.

According to a senior mobile apps analyst, the problem with Facebook is that it is a platform on the web, but on the mobile, it’s just a simple application. It may need to take some HTML5 help to build its own mobile operating system. It will be interesting to see how these networking sites take up the challenge and improve to meet the demands of time.
